Back Pain Tips:

  • Many assume that if you hurt your back you have done something to your spine. But spinal injuries account for very little of the back pain people sufferer from. Most of the time back pain in because of muscles strain, ligaments or tendons pulled, or poor posture which makes everything that much off kilter and so the body must compensate which causes lots of muscles to ache in the lower back
  • It is said that essential oils can help alleviate pain because a lot of oils like Rosemary, Sage, Thyme, and Horse balm contain natural compounds like thymol that help your muscles relax. To get the full benefit you need to mix the correct quantity of oils together and rub them into the affected area after you have had a bath. The reason why you need to use the oils after you have had a bath is because your pores will be open and your muscles relaxed.
  • Herbs such as Camomile having a calming affect on muscle tissue, other herbs like Bromelain, which is a pineapple extract, is a natural anti-inflammatory. It is believed that if you take these herbs at a high enough quantity they can help alleviate the back pain you are feeling.
  • Meditation, it is believed, cleanses your body and mind of impurities including pain and tension. The course of treatment for meditation is thirty minutes to one hour a day lying on your back with pillows placed under your knees and thighs so the stress on your back is alleviated.
  • If you are overweight and suffer from back pain, your best option to treat the back problem is to loose weight. You knew that. Taking action is the problem? How about just doing the hovering twice as often as you do at the moment? You DO do house work right? A clean, healthy house also aids in healing your back pain would you believe!
  • Don't let anyone tell you that if your back hurts you should go to bed and stay there until it feels better. This is completely wrong. While a few days of lesser activity and some bed rest is good for a sore back complete bed rest does not heal. It actually hinders healing because the back needs activity, though not excessively so, to heal right. The stretching of muscles, and walking are a good place to start Otherwise a person’s mobility and flexibility will be affected. Research has shown that resting for four days has no more benefit to a person’s back health than if they rested for only two days.
  • A professional dance lesson can help you improve your back pain problems and reduce the risk, because dance is physically demanding it improves fitness, but also by forcing you to dance correctly the instructors also improve your posture and stance, two great contributors to back health.
  • At some time in their lives most Americans will suffer from back pain. This is not a myth, it is very true and so you should take care of your back by a gentle exercise program, good posture and common sense.
  • Of the many possible exercises that can be used to strengthen a person’s back one of the best suited to someone suffering from back pain is using a stationary cycle. This is because riding a stationary cycle can build strength in the back muscles, diminish pain and make the spine healthier. All of these are very valuable to the person who needs to find a gentle way to exercise him or herself into better health.
  • People believe that those who do physical work for a living, such as construction workers, are more likely to have back problems that those who work in an office. This is quite wrong. It is a well know fact that those who sit all day, leading a sedentary existence, and far more likely to have back issues than are those whose jobs include physical exercise.
  • Have you ever heard that smoking aggravates back pain? Well, although many people do not want to believe it, this is true.
  • Some people believe, wrongly, that if you suffer back pain at some point in your life it will get worse each time you experience it again, especially as you age. In fact back pain seems to be worse between the ages of thirty-five and fifty-five. Then it seems to level out. Over the remaining years of a person’s life they may still have back pain, but it is usually related to aging and so it is different.
  • There are many myths about chiropractors and back pain. Some people actually believe that once you go to a chiropractor you must go for the rest of your life. This is not true. Nor is it true that because of the manipulation a chiropractor does that this wears out your joints. The treatment does not rub your bones together. This treatment is safe and regulated so there are no worries at all should you want to be treated by a chiropractor.
  • Some people believe in different kinds of massage that treat one area to give relief to another area. Reflexology is one of these methods. The feet are massage in certain places to give pain relief to other places. Shiatsu is another type of massage that repairs pain and discomfort to one place by massaging another. On the other hand Swedish massage is a form of massage designed to promote healing, improve relaxation of the patient and improve blood circulation. When the blood circulates better this will reduce the swelling of any injury and so help healing.
  • In some cases massage may not be a good idea. For example, if the back pain is related to broken or fractured bones massage is not suggested. Nor is it a good idea when a woman is pregnant, especially if she is still in the first three months of her pregnancy.
