Snow shoveling is an extremely strenuous activity and can be very stressful on the body’s cardiovascular system. Bending to lift heavy snow can produce shoulder, leg and back pain. A muscle strain usually appears as a dull, achy pain in a muscle region and subsides within three to five days, says Katherine Braun, clinic director of Sports Therapy and Rehabilitation in Washington.
